The social web is far more than just Twitter and Facebook – and if Twitter is the extent of your online interaction you’re missing out. The World of PR has changed and it’s time to jump on the ‘bandwagon’ and embrace all things digital before you get left behind, eating the dust of the early adopters.

The Future Looks Bright

At Wired Communications we see a future where the world of PR will look very different from the one we’ve become accustomed to. Developments in the digital sphere will create a life changing quake and we can already feel the trembling in the ground. Despite our tendency to clutch on to what we know, digital marketing is fast overtaking traditional approaches. So now, it’s up to us to embrace the change and learn all we can about ever changing online trends.

At the risk of this reading like an “I have a dream” speech, we can look forward to a future where digital and traditional PR will merge in to one seamless approach. While today we speak of a channel-specific approach whereby we tackle traditional and digital PR from different angles we can all look forward to a future where the two will be inherently linked.

Authenticity and Interaction

There are too many faceless brands and companies on the web. We crave authenticity and genuine human interaction and the digital realm is far more effective than traditional media when it comes to interacting with your audience.  The web is a platform where a brand can express itself more openly with consumers by engaging in conversation with consumers. The web enables you to talk with consumers and prospects, not at them. Of course having said that, not every brand will find it easy to engage with consumers online but even a small bit of authenticity and interaction can go a long way.

Quick conclusion

Social media for PR is a dynamic, constant process, and not everyone will be agile enoughto embrace it.  But it allows truly passionate and authentic brands to stand out and build a loyal following.  The few brands and professionals that get it right are memorable because there are so many who get it wrong.

Having an effective strategy and the patience to see it pay off will have you seeing returns far greater than traditional PR can offer. The trick is to learn from those who are already in the space. Follow the actions of those using the social media space and learn from their triumphs and failures. We’re not saying be a copy-cat – as online users can smell a cheap copy a mile away – but use what works and what doesn’t to develop your own winning strategy and you’ll soon be singing the praises of digital media.

Beyond your Twitter and Facebook account is a digital smorgasbord just waiting for you… so go on take the plunge and start reaping the benefits.
