SA Olive’s Commitment To Compliance (CTC)
What does the SA Olive ‘commitment to compliance’ (CTC) seal mean for consumers?
The SA Olive CTC seal on a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is a seal of confidence. It is the guarantee that the producer is committed to compliance in quality olive oil production. It confirms that the EVOO is 100% locally (South African) produced and is authentic Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This means the consumer may experience all the enjoyment and benefits of a fresh juice extracted from newly harvested olives. The SA Olive Commitment to Compliance (CTC) Scheme is not a certification scheme. It is a voluntary integrity-based scheme managed by SA Olive for locally produced extra virgin olive oil.
The CTC seal also guarantees that the labelling of the product is correct and transparent. The year of harvest and ‘best before’ date are clearly displayed on the product to assure consumers of the freshness of the oil.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a natural, unrefined olive oil with low acidity, no defects and a fresh, vibrant taste. If properly extracted and carefully stored, EVOO has a multitude of health benefits and a full spectrum of flavour nuances, including: bitter, fruity, pungent, green, ripe, crisp, and, above all fresh.
The SA Olive seal guarantees all this while encouraging consumers to support the local olive oil industry and the producers who have earned the seal.
The SA Olive Commitment to Compliance (CTC) seal is the consumer’s assurance that the producer undertakes that:
- The content is 100% locally produced olive oil;
- The content was produced in the harvest year displayed on the seal;
- The SA Olive Organoleptic Tasting Panel considers the content free of organoleptic defects;
- The content complies with International Olive Council (IOC) chemical analysis standards for free fatty acids (FFA) and peroxide value (PV).
