Repairs for Schools in Amalinda

Eight schools in Amalinda, East London, were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The schools each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000 which means the schools will be able to improve and repair their premises.  The vouchers were handed out to all the schools at the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the refurbished Cashbuild Amalinda store on the 14th of April 2022. The children from the selected schools entertained everyone with singing, cultural dancing and theatrical performances during the ceremony.*

Aspiranza Primary School and Nontuthuzelo Public School were just two of the eight schools that each received a Cashbuild building material voucher.

Mr Jusuf Jina, the principal of Aspiranza Primary School said, “We have 3 JoJo tanks donated to our school, with this Cashbuild voucher we would like to buy 3 pumps for these water tanks which will be used to fill the toilets and also for clean drinking water.”  He also added, “We would like to repair the toilet basins and seats for the learners’ toilets.  The school is also in need of a paint on the outside, which we are really looking forward to doing – to show how beautiful our school can be.”

The principal of Nontuthuzelo Public School Primary School, Mr Mphenduli Nqoma says he wanted to focus on the learner’s toilets. “We want to spend the money replacing the broken cisterns, and the basins that are leaking, we will also buy paint and paint the walls of these toilets inside as there is a lot of writing on the walls we need to cover.”

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice was awarded to a learner from Nontuthuzelo Public School who was the overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winning learner received a backpack with stationery and a trophy. The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the new store.

Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools.
